XC Casa

Aixa’s House

By Xánath Caraza

Translated by Sandra Kingery

The walls of Dar al-Horra are standing

A mauve mural honors you

Fresh energy flows

Crossing the threshold of your house

The intimacy of the place surprises

Small fountain of water in the interior patio

Interior lattice windows allow

The game of those who watch without being seen

Bouquets of violet flowers overflow

Green vines give echo to the beauty of your days

I see you walk in front of the exquisite plasterwork

Aixa Slipps down the hallways

Heart of the Albaicín, Nasrid construction

The erudition of your words still pulsates

Elegance and firmness define you

You went down in history as the honest one

(Granada, Andalucía, Spain, Summer 2012)
