Women lifesavers (including one in a burqini) dance on a beach. Mermaids populate the ocean behind the figures.
The dancers’ companion, Annette Kellermann, was herself known as the ‘Australian Mermaid’ and the ‘Diving Venus’. Swimmer, aquatic performer and film actor, Kellermann was a pioneer of bathing costumes which allowed women to move freely in water. Restrictive traditional garments lie scattered on the beach.
The chant embroidered on the background comes from the Dianic Tradition of the contemporary Goddess movement. The Ocean too is a Goddess, the source of all life.
