(Poem) mind the confluence by Aisha Monks-Husain

aisha-monks-husain-imagetwo roaring rivers

raging waters

broken slumber

wash away my concrete thoughts

stumbling drunkenly

laughing, feeling

hurting, growing up

finding my place

becoming a woman

loving and feeling

myself and others

becoming the rush of fluid

that has divided me

for eternity

the overwhelming power

of earth and universe

coming together inside me

a woman

a goddess

no more tiptoeing

shattering constraints

defying authority

i want what’s best for me too

i shall rise like the sun

and shine like the moon

for those who didn’t have a choice
