SPAIN

The Cybele Palace in Madrid is the home of the City Council – a grand old building with a “Refugees Welcome” sign on the front. It is located on the Plaza de Cybele which has a fountain with a statue of Cybele with two lions.

Barcelona Egyptian Museum. Many Egyptian tombs included statues of naked women; originally interpreted as concubines (!), they are now understood to represent Isis and Nephthys. Wooden statue, 2040-2134 BCE. Necklaces, 4000-3000 BCE.

  1. Re: Kaalli Photos…. I love the grandmothers and the one beneath that looks so owl-like… I look forward to seeing these images so much… It’s fascinating that the so called concubines are goddesses – leave it to patriarchy to leave the sublime and reduce them to sex slaves. UGH.
