This painting was created for an exhibition called “Goddesses and Heroines” in 1993, 36 x 60”. For many centuries women lived in restrictive patriarchal and androcentric societies that considered women lesser equals. Guarding both their voices and stories safe within, was integral to their fight for survival not just for themselves but for their community and future generations as well.
Materials: spackle mixed with glue on panel, painted with acrylics in layers and sanded several times to give impression of antiquity as well as the uneven texture of rock.
As always, script – in this case Cuneiform – is part of the art work.
