Note: Rape is eulogised in mythical and historical settings. This is one of the better-known ancient history mass rapes, though there are many others. The Greek god, Zeus is a serial rapist and those rapes are glorified in the Greek myths, but frequently readers don’t recognise that this god (and many others) engage in these acts. When I studied Classics in the early 1980s, I wrote about the mythic stories of rapes and was academically punished for doing so. You can find these essays about Aphrodite and Demeter in the following publications:
2018 The Homeric Hymn to Aphrodite, Goddesses in Myth, History and Culture. Edited by Mary Ann Beavis and Helen Hye-Sook Hwang. Mago Books. pp. 152-162.
2023 The Homeric Hymn to Demeter. S/HE: An International Journal of Goddess Studies. Vol. 2, No. 2. Mago Books
The image that goes with this post is just another glorification of rape.
