(Poem) My Female Body by Mary Saracino

a drawing I made, Vibrant Life, photo credit: Mary Saracino

My body is the home of my soul

the house of my desires

it has known chaos and violation

it has known joy and jubilation

it knows the insults of all that would not honor it

which is to say our culture that devalues all that is female

even as society denies that reality

this body is my home, my house, my sanctuary

this body is inviolable, innately holy

the home of my soul

my sacred cells,

my blessed blood

my tears, my laughter,

my eyes that see,

my tongue that names

my heart that knows

my mind that refuses to forget

my hands that resist the chains

my legs, strong and free that dance

and jump and run

home, run home, run home

to me
