Recently, I had a period of sleepless nights where my head was spinning and my heart was racing. Finally, I began to recite Surah Al-Fatihah from the Quran in my head. I learned that if I did this a few times, I could change my thought patterns and finally fall back into sleep. I wondered if I could go further back into my Christian heritage and try this with passages of the Bible. I was curious if reciting Bible verses in English instead of the Quran in Arabic (which is not my native tongue or even a language I know well) would be equally effective. It was. My mind stopped spinning and I fell asleep. Continue reading
So now it’s confession time. When we began this project, I ordered some of Arna’s Colouring Pages. I have wanted to order colouring sheets for several years now but I never have. I was usually short on money as a long-time single mom. I always put my own desires off in favor of taking care of something for the kids. I also worried that I would never find time to colour them. But after debating it with myself for 3-4 weeks, I decided to order them!
I was thrilled to receive Arna’s package in the mail from Australia. I looked at the beautiful folder at least 10 times before I pulled the sheets out to Continue reading
If you feel stuck in your life as a female, this is not an accident. There is nothing “wrong with you” and nothing that needs to be fixed. Rather, there are systematic and overlapping oppressions that hamper women and girls worldwide.
This toolbox is a means to help you break free of those oppressions individually, facilitating the release of the collective female consciousness from the indoctrination of inferiority most of us were raised with. In doing so, we hope to Continue reading
If you were the last person on Earth would you take the time to fall in love? If there were no one to impress and no one to compare yourself with, would you be able to be happy?
You are the only one here and the way you view yourself is exactly what you will transmit energetically to the world around you.
The more consistently you love yourself the more consistently you will notice love in your external world.
The way your world looks is in exact response to how much you truly love, respect, accept and approve of you. Continue reading

Please join us in celebrating the 2015 Nine-Day Solstice Celebration dedicated to Finding Our Inner Voice on Thursday, December 17th 9pm PST. Welcome your own inner voice warmly with a guided meditation, hear Lucy Pierce and Marie de Kock in conversation about it, including a contribution by Arna Baartz, do some gentle exercises to liberate your Inner Voice and listen to a poem clearly expressing Her.
I have often written of the work of undoing patriarchal thought—facing our assumptions, our fears, our wounds. While we all must do this inner work, to face patriarchal thought as a woman is to touch upon the core of the matter: to define and honor self in a society that degrades female self. Doing this work means opening yourself up to grief—to deep sadness, to fear and rage, to the contempt that culture holds for woman. It also means opening yourself up to great power and peace—a gift of grace that is your birthright as a human being. This work is a process, and at its core is self-knowledge: this is who I am, you must say. This is where I hurt, and where I dream. This is how I would spread my wings, if only I thought I could. I accept myself, and I love myself. Standing on the ground of self-love is a truly transformational experience. But you can’t do it alone—you need a guide, or more than one. Sometimes the guide is a professional, sometimes a friend or a sister. Sometimes the guide is a book that allows you to gently meet yourself in sacred recognition. New Love: a reprogramming toolbox for undoing the knots, by Trista Hendren and Arna Baartz, is just such a guide—this wonderful book will lead you straight to yourself, and to freedom.
The energy of Kundalini can feel subtle, almost undetectable, or it can plough through you like a raging beast, licking and biting, leaving no corner untouched. The latter is how it started for me, a whirlwind of intensity that left me ragged, raw and forever changed.
Have you felt a stirring, unusual warmth or surges of feeling that fill you with fear or wonder? Maybe my story can shed a little light for you.
Even though the Kundalini fire didn’t rage until my late twenties, I look back now and can clearly see that the sparks were flying from the beginning….
Fire lives within us all; it is who we are. We are glowing with the power of conscious creation and it is the broadest perspective of ourselves who are this fire’s guide. To know ourselves properly we must take responsibility for our power and connect more consciously with our far seeing beingness. The time is over for passing the blame to another for the supposed ‘loss’ of personal power. Humans are here to experience the contrast, reconciliation and emotional evolution that living on Earth brings, as we realise this we are gifted with bursts and sparks of intensity in our physical/spiritual system. Some might call this Kundalini energy.
She has been expressing herself creatively for 44 years and finds it to be her favourite way of exploring her inner being enough to evolve positively in an externally focused world.
Arna’s artistic and literary expression is her creative perspective of the stories she observes playing out around her.
